Several dormant volcano's can be find on Braulio Carrillo National Park, Chompipe Hill, Cacho Negro Hill and Las Tres Marias Hill. Barva Volcano present some crater lakes, Copey, Danta and Barva. Braulio Carrillo National Park is fundamental in water resources protection with an hydroelectric project. This hydroelectric project supplies water to a large part of Central Valley. Rainforest and a primary cloud forest cover the park, many species of flora and fauna live rivers, waterfalls and a protected thick forest.
Getting Braulio Carrillo
The easier way to get Braulio Carrillo National Park is taking the highway to Limon from San Jose. This highway passes by two ranger stations of the park on the Zurqui and Carrillo zones. The Barva Volcano can be reached through Sacramento in Heredia. The last 2 miles to the ranger station of Barva Volcano are inaccessible to cars, generally is only accessible by hiking.
Braulio Carrillo Park Facilities
The three ranger stations in Barva Volcano, Zurqui and Carrillo are open from 8h to 16h. Many hiking hiking scenes throughout the whole way on different sectors, trail guides are available. Picnic areas, restrooms are available on three ranger stations, our recommendation for hikers is to make the exploration of the park only with experienced guides.
