Cahuita Beach

About Cahuita

Cahuita Beach is the most important destination of south Limon. Most people go to Puerto Viejo Beach and other beaches of Puerto Viejo and they pass by Cahuita Beach. It's gravel roads are host of a very singular traffic of people in bicycle going to the beach.

Afro-Caribbean laborers and fisherman settled down in Cahuita in mid-1800's, today the primarily population is english-speaking blacks with a different culture different from the rest of the country. Pristine beaches of white sand are visited for many people who came to Cahuita Beach. On southern beaches you can find a coral reef and a dense forest behind them part of Cahuita National Park.

How to get Cahuita Beach

Taking the highway #32 to Limon from San Jose is the easier way to get to Cahuita Beach and to the Cahuita National Park. First you pass the Rainforest Aerial Tram and the Braulio Carrillo National Park, then you need to drive through Siquirres, Matina and Guapiles. When you are in downtown Limon you need to pass the cemetery and continue driving. Once you see the Cahuita/Puerto Viejo sign you should turn right. Follow the signs and continue driving through the coastline road until you get Cahuita Beach.
