Corcovado National Park

The Corcovado National Park is located to about 368 km of San jose, follow the South Inter-American Highway and taking the deflection towards Puerto Jiménez in the community from Chacarita.

Corcovado National Park is conformed by a singular set of terrestrial and marine ecosystems that interact with a harmony, whose principles science still is far from reaching a global understanding. The area, as a whole, has a flora that adds thousands of species, many of which has a restricted distritución or has disappeared already of other regions. It could mention the example of garlic (Costa Rican Caryocar), ojoche (Brosimun costaricanum) and the caracolito cedar (caracolito Ruptiliocarpon). This last tree represents a scientific finding that data of November of 1993 and constitutes a new sort and species for the world and establishes a new botanical family for the neotropic. The fauna in Corcovado National Park who Guacamaya or lapa red (Altar macao), the mount pig (Tayassu pecari), the jaguar (Felis onca) and the crocodile (Crocodylus acutus) endorses such affirmation. As well as the caracolito tree, in the future the studies could reveal the existence in the area of other species unknown that, but for the conservation of the park, would be lost for always, without arriving to be described.

The climate in Corocovado National Park

  • It warms up, rainy and very humid
  • Dry station: of half-full of December in the middle of April, with sporadic rains.
  • Rainy station: of half-full of April in the middle of December.
  • Annual pluvial precipitation: with an average of 5,500 millimeters, in the mountainous zone. In the coastal zone 3,500 millimeters.
