Costarricense Museum
Creating to preserve national artists Costarricense Museum hold two separate collections, one for foreigners works and the principal for national artists works. The biggest collection is the national including more than 2570 sculptures, woodcarvings and paintings and just the half of the collection is showed to the public at the same time. The Gold Room ("Salon El Dorado") is commonly used to present concerts and conferences, other room recently inaugurated is the Alternative Space which was biulded for temporary exhibitions.
Costarricense Museum located at the end of Paso Colon originally was an airport terminal, today this museum holds many collections of all media by most celebrated artists in Costa Rica. The exhibition counts wiht a wide variety of styles of major costa rican artists showing how local artists have interpreted and imitatedthe most importants european movements through the years. Besides the regular exhibitions there are also temporary exhibitions of new works of begginers artist who wants to show his works to the public. If you visit Costarricense Museum make sure to visit the second floor of the museum, go up and look the fantastic pre-columbian history of Costa Rica with images of the people of these times. Recently the museum add a new section, the sculpture garden, while the collection is quite small it includes representative works by the most representative artists in Costa Rica, find amazing works of Jorge Jimenez de Heredia, Francisco Zuñiga, Jose Sancho and Max Jimenez. At this museum you can easily spend two hours admiring amazing works of costa rican artists as foreigners, don't forget to visit the sculpture garden and you'll be impressed with the amazing works of these artists.
