Volcan Miravalles Protected Area

The Volcan Miravalles protected area’s main attraction is the Miravalles volcano, the tallest one (2,028 meters above sea level) in volcanic mountain range of Guanacaste, Bagaces canton. Its slopes feature hot springs that may be enjoyed at the pool in Guayabo. Volcanic fumaroles can also be visited. |

Miravalles volcano is located 15 km to the north of Bagaces, province of Guanacaste belongs to Cordillera of Guanacaste. With an elevation of 2028 ms s.n.m. This Constituted at least by six volcanic centers in its majority aligned NE-SO. The crater of the Miravalles has 600m of diameter. |
At the moment it presents/displays volcanic activity of secondary type (thermal mud solfataras, stony grounds and sources) in the denominated area "the Hornillas". In the skirts of this volcano the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity develops the Geothermal project Miravalles vulcano.
The fauna is impressive: 130 species of birds, mammals such as the monkeys Congos and Cariblancos, squirrels, armadillos, deer, etc. The flora is exuberante. After a long walk by the natural footpaths, it will have the opportunity to swim in one of pozas natural that are within the reserve. Miravalles Volcano, where it will be able to admire seen natural fumarolas solely in very few places of the world, experimenting a unique feeling while it walks between the footpaths and it observes mud bubbling great temperatures.
There are beautiful waterfalls in the area of the miravalles vulcano, such as Cabro Muco and the waterfall on the grounds of the college in La Fortuna, near to which are several lakes. In addition, this area is home to Costa Rica’s only geothermal electricity production project.
