Gold Museum

The Museum of Gold has an extraordinary collection of objects in gold that reflect the cosmovisión, social structure, and orfebrería of the pre-Columbian towns of the present Costa Rican territory. The exhibition in the gold museum shows to the use and function of the pieces, the technology, as well as the relation with the nature and the daily life of these human groups. The collection is formed by 1600 pre-Columbian gold pieces that date from year 500 to the 1500 D.C

The collection of indigenous gold objects displayed at the Gold Museum is considered one of the most valuable in the world. In a route by the room of the gold museum you will find animal representations like frogs, lizards and birds; objects that behaved in the body for the decoration and the distinction of rank, like patenas (golden records that was hung in the chest), necklaces, narigueras, earrings, bracelets and bells. Also it will be able to observe figures of chamanes in miniature.

The Gold museum is located in the Plaza de la Cultura, adjacent to the Tourism Information office of the Costa Rica Tourism Board.

The Plaza de la cultura is located on Calle 5 at Avenida Central, the Gold Museum is open to the public Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m
