Tamarindo Beach

Tamarindo Beach is a favourite vacation destination for Costa Ricans and international visitors alike. The wide bay is an invitation for activities such as swimming, surfing and sun-bathing. The long and sandy beach, of a light gray color, is ideal for extensive walks or horse back riding. Tamarind trees on the beach provide some well-needed shade.

Tamarindo beach can be reached from San José by car or bus in aproximately five hours. It also has a small airstrip; a domestic flight from San José takes you to Tamarindo in about 45 minutes. Tamarindo Beach is located 1 km south of Grande Beach, Guanacaste.

Although Tamarindo beach remains a small town, it does offer an exciting array of activities. Tamarindo Beach coutn with hotels of all categories, restaurants, car and bike rental, water sport shops providing surfboards and ocean kayaks, as well as as tour operators that offer a wide range of excursions to natural attractions have established themselves in the area to cater to the needs of travelers and surfers. Another interesting tour is the boat ride to the mangroves of the area, home to varied wildlife.
