Turrialba Volcano National Park

Volcan Turrialba Turrialba Volcano is very little frequented. One is on a par of the Irazú and it reaches the same height almost (3340m aprox). It is thought that a same channel of magma feeds Volcanoos both. The skirts of Turrialba Volcanoo are a little more populating with forest than those of the Irazu. It is possible to be lowered to the crater.

The Turialba Volcano National Park count with 1,257-hectares the most important feature. Turrialba shares a foundation with Volcano Irazú, which is why they are often identified as twin volcanos. Turrialba features three well-defined craters as well as others misshapen by Volcanoic activity. The last eruption occurred in 1864-66 and nowadays there is solfataric activity. Current activity of the Turrialba Volcano consists of gas and steam eruptions with sulfur deposits. The average temperature here is 16 degrees Celsius, and rainfall varies between 3,000 to 4,000 millimeters per year.
The central crater of the Turrialba Volcano is the deepest, at approximately 50 meters. On its slopes are two possible near cones, Tiendilla (2,791 meters above sea level) and Armado (2,750 meters). The services to visitor of the Turrialba Volcano include trails and several natural viewpoints.

The access road to Turrialba VOlcano start in Pastora de Santa Cruz, although grit-covered, is very steep in the upper part and so four-wheeled drive vehicles are required.
